What does Genzennial mean?

A genzennial is someone born between 1991-2001 who identifies with both Millennial and Generation Z culture.

Hannah Wilson

  • Instagram

In between being called a Cockney by her dad because she lived in London for 3 years, northerner Hannah spends her time watching incredibly interesting yet somewhat-depressing documentaries. If she’s not glued to a tv screen, she’s either reading through CaucasianJames’ Twitter account, creating random designs on Canva or spending time with family. As well as designing and running the website, Hannah enjoys writing about tv (shocker), pop culture, and travel. And if she’s not doing any of those things, she’s probably asleep!

Where's your happy place?

It’s got to be Windermere in the Lake District. It’s incredibly beautiful and quiet with the cutest cafes and some really interesting galleries - just make sure to avoid the swans!

Childhood nickname?

My brother called me 'Kraken' for the majority of my life because when I used to cry as a baby my dad would shout 'RELEASE THE KRAKEN' from Clash of the Titans. Thanks bro.

Favourite fashion trend of all time?

I’ve been told not to say leg warmers or MC Hammer pants so I’ll have to go with an oversized printed t-shirt and denim skirt. I like anything that makes me feel like I'm heading to a cafe in the 90s (check my Pinterest board for more).

What’s your favourite 90s memory?

The four years I lived through the 90s were great but I’d have to say the day I got my Tickle-Me-Elmo… or my dad's huge 40th birthday party when I slept the whole night.

Cure for a bad day?

Comfy clothes, candles lit, laying in bed in front of the TV with a box set of Gene Kelly’s greatest movies. Singin’ in the Rain, Anchors Aweigh, An American in Paris and On the Town - in that order.

Netflix recommendations?

Okay, here we go. For TV I love Mindhunter, Stranger Things, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Community, The Umbrella Academy, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Keepers, iZombie, The Confession Killer.

If we're talking Amazon Prime it's got to be Bosch, The Man in the High Castle, Criminal Minds, House, Friday Night Lights, New Girl, Good Omens, Lie to Me, The Mentalist, Veronica Mars.

Movies are more difficult so anything by John Hughes, Louis Theroux documentaries, and all the sappy romantic comedies you can get your hands on.

Derrian Douglas

  • Instagram

A born New Jerseyan, Derrian will be the first to tell you that people from New Jersey ‘don't talk like that’, and that she lives 15 minutes from the Jonas Brothers’s hometown. She’s a former theatre kid turned shower singer, true crime lover, and frequent Buzzfeed quiz taker. It wouldn’t be a conversation with Derrian if she didn’t say “like”, or quote Step Brothers, Mean Girls or Bridesmaids! Derrian’s always up for a gossip sesh over a boozy brunch or a couple of cocktails at one of her many favourite cocktail bars in London. If you see an article on the Jonas Brothers, Derrian definitely wrote it. When there isn’t a global pandemic going on, she’s probably thrift shopping in the posh areas of London or writing in a coffee shop and perfecting our social media presence.

Celebrity crush?

Nick Jonas! 8 year-old Derrian was definitely on to something in 2005. Everyone always used to make fun of me for liking him the most, but clearly I knew something they didn’t know. My first kiss may or may not have been with one of the many Nick Jonas posters on my bedroom wall. Nick, if you’re seeing this, disregard the last sentence and do you want to get a taylor ham, egg and cheese next time you’re in NJ?

Childhood nickname?

Tweety Bird! I got the nickname from my dad because I was a chubby baby and had big cheeks like the cartoon. To this day, he still calls me “his Tweety Bird” and buys me Tweety Bird-themed things! In case you were wondering - yes, I still have chubby cheeks.

In 2-3 sentences, tell us about your dream celebrity family.

My parents would be Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts - good looks and talent really make the perfect parents. My grandparents would be Robert DeNiro and Meryl Streep, and Mandy Patinkin and Julie Andrews - for obvious reasons. I’d love to have Adele, Sophie Turner-Jonas and Lewis Capaldi as siblings - it’s not a coincidence they’re all British.

If you were a TV character, who would you be?

Either Jessica Day or - I know she isn’t from a TV show - Donna Sheridan from Mamma Mia! Jessica Day and I are a lot alike in the sense that sometimes we can be a lot to handle - we break out into song way too often, we are sometimes painfully optimistic, and dogs and babies make us cry...a lot. We also always try to see the best in people. On top of Donna Sheridan being a ‘shady lady’, we’re also both insanely independent, and moved to a new country on our own.

City you’re eager to go back to?

Either Prague or Austin, TX. Prague is a really special place for my boyfriend and I, so I hold the city dear to my heart. I find the city so beautiful and romantic. And nothing beats Prague Ham! Austin has it all - ALL the tacos, amazing thrift shops, the best music festivals, and my niece and nephew! Austin is one of the cities I’d love to live in one day!

Ashleigh Swan

  • Instagram

A Glasgow born gal, Ashleigh is the blonde bestie you need in your life. You can find her at your local Starbucks with a grande latte or at the local Italian with a glass of sparkling. If she’s not watching the Lizzie Mcguire Movie on repeat she's most definitely enjoying Madrid's local delicacy -  Enrique Iglesias. Ash loves travelling, especially in Europe -  she truly lives the Eat, Pray, Love life. She enjoys meeting people and telling their stories.

Where’s your happy place?

Either sitting outside a cafe in Europe sipping on a cappuccino watching the world go by or hanging with my family.

Celebrity crush?

The one, the only, Enrique Iglesias. How can you not love him? Not only is he extremely handsome but his music is fantastic and makes me feel good whenever I listen to it. My favourite songs of his are Hero, Cuando Me Enamoro, and Escape. In fact, as you read this I am trying to find a way to meet him, until then you can catch me throwing my knickers at him during his concerts - sorry Hamish.

Netflix Recommendations?

La Casa de papel! This is the best TV show I have seen. It’s a Spanish heist crime drama and once you start watching you won’t stop watching until it's finished.

Cure for a bad day?

Run a bath with a Lavender bubble bath, light some candles in the room and relax. After that, comfy pjs on with a cup of tea and a bag of munchies. I either watch the Lizzie Mcguire Movie, Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 or Eat, Pray, Love - all are good for the soul on a bad day.

City you're eager to go back to?

Always, always Rome. And not just because the Lizzie Mcguire Movie is set there - well maybe a little bit. I truly believe Rome is the most magical place in the entire world. When I went there for the first time it just gave me such an unbelievable feeling inside. Also the food is great and the prosecco is even better. I really want my future husband to propose to me at the Trevi Fountain at midnight in the Summer - Hint Hint Hamish.

Rusdeep Heera

  • Instagram

The resident lit friend, Rusdeep spends most of her time deciding what eyelashes are long enough, re-watching episodes of New Girl while pretending like she doesn’t already know what happens and drinking buckets of green tea in hopes of reversing the affects of cheat days that actually last weeks. You’ll either find her out and about in full glam or lighting candles and laughing at stupid memes with coconut oil in her hair. There’s no in between, however, no matter what, she’ll always be living.

Meal (or food) you’d eat every day?

Pasta. Hands down. Don’t even have to think about it. Any shape. Any sauce. Any time.

Netflix recommendations?

Have I mentioned that I like New Girl? Like a lot? If you like obvious humour, shows that set realistic but unrealistic expectations and have a short attention span, New Girl is the one for you. Also, any crime documentary.

If you were a TV character, who would you be?

Schmidt from New Girl.

Cure for a bad day?

Cheesecake. Any flavour. Not chocolate though, you can hate me, but I hate milk and dark chocolate, it’s nasty. I said what I said.

What phrase do you say the most?

Either ‘that sounds like a you problem’ or ‘it is what it is’, both are great for when you’re just trying to focus on yourself tbh.

Ivana Finch

  • Instagram

Probably throwing some random colours on her face or bleaching her hair until it falls out, Ivana is the other Northerner of the girl gang. She can’t say nothe pub, or a cocktail, but she does so in style. Ivana is originally from Hong Kong, with a Filipino and British background, loves jetting off preferably somewhere hot and living her best life.

What do you love most about yourself?

I always preach about self-love and how important it is. My fave thing about myself would be my style / makeup, it allows me to express myself and makes me feel like 100% that bitch.

Favourite fashion trend of all time?

ABBA. Does that count as a trend? Not sure but I would do anything for ABBA’s whole wardrobe. Flares, platforms, lycra, catsuits, say no more, I want it all.

Go-to skincare product?

Thanks to Skincare by Hyram, my favourite skincare products are the Cerave moisturizer and facial cleanser. Great for acne prone skin / oily skin, it’s honestly life changing.

Ellie Dalton

  • Instagram

Eleanor tells everyone she’s from Brighton but she actually grew up twenty minutes away in a small village. Now living south of the river in London, her day-to-day life consists of growing her reading list to the point that she’ll never have time to ever read them all, working in a retail store and as a freelance journalist and eating Crosstown doughnuts (shout out to their vegan range). In her time off she’ll be found spending time at her family home, practicing headstands, shamelessly watching the latest and greatest reality TV shows on Netflix or having dinner with her friends.

If we couldn’t find you, where’s the one place we should look?

Either asleep in my bed- I was known to miss dinner regularly when I lived back home because my mum thought I was still at college when actually I was just taking a 4 hour nap- or by the closest big expanse of water.

Where's your happy place?

Honestly, wherever my family is is my happy place. It doesn’t get better than being at home with all my siblings, my mum, good food and some board games.

Go-to karaoke song?

Shania Twain, ‘You’re Still The One’ but skip the first 23 seconds, they make me slightly uncomfortable.

City you’re eager to go back to?

Sydney, Sydney, Sydney. It’s got the best of both worlds with the city and the crazy beautiful beaches. As long as the spiders stay away from me, I could live there very happily.

Netflix recommendations?

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for ‘trash’ TV, I just finished watching ‘Below Deck’ and I now want a career change to become a yachtie. ‘Selling Sunset’ was also a 10/10.
